Student Life Academy Highly Impacts ISC-Erbil Students

An essential part of all SABIS® schools, the SABIS Student Life Organization® is a student-led society that provides students with the opportunity to experience and learn from real-life situations. The students support the school administration and teachers by providing assistance in a variety of ways.

The Student Life Academy (SLA) at ISC-Erbil is a major component of the Student Life Organization. The Student Life Academy runs every Saturday, usually from 8:00 AM-12:30 PM but can extend up to 5:00 PM. Over thirty Shadow Teachers® report for duty to provide content support, study support for retakes, and supervision of extracurricular activities.

Academically, Shadow Teachers™ provide help to students in content areas that have been identified by either the teachers or the AQCs. In order to ensure that the SLA runs smoothly, the SLO™ Academic Head Prefect meets with the Student Life Coordinator and all Shadow Teachers™ ahead of time to prepare, plan, and organize for the Saturday sessions. During the teaching sessions, Shadow Teachers™ follow SABIS® teaching methodologies, and at the end of the lesson, they collect and check class work, add comments, and then return the work to the students. The progress of the students, along with other issues, is discussed in the weekly SLA meetings.

Socially, the Student Life Academy also contributes significantly to the ISC-Erbil community. Those involved in the Student Life Academy work to plan extracurricular activities and volunteer to supervise and organize "Fun Days" for the Lower Primary students.

In a nutshell, the Student Life Academy provides ISC-Erbil students with the opportunity to embody the "SABIS® EDGE™". They strengthen their knowledge, develop self-discipline and self-confidence, and acquire life skills.
