ISC-Erbil Students Take Ski Trip to Lebanon
Amidst a group of gathered friends and family, a group of 60 students from the International School of Choueifat - Erbil, embarked upon a ski trip to Lebanon from March 9 to 13, 2009. The students were accompanied by the Student Life Coordinator and members of the administrative supervisory team.
The ISC-Erbil students spent four days/five nights at the ski resort in Faqra, Lebanon. As part of the trip, students received ski lessons from trained instructors every morning and became proficient skiers in a relatively short period. In fact, the instructors were truly impressed by the speed with which the students learned how to ski and classified them as one of the best groups they have ever worked with.
To put their skiing skills intro practice, the students joined in an exciting competition in the presence of SABIS® President, Mr. Carl Bistany, who came to extend his support. Tarin Barzani and Ana Shaways were the two students who came in first place during the competition.
Their itinerary also included a visit to downtown Beirut and the Jeita Grotto, a magic wonder in the limestone of the Mount Lebanon range and now one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. "We really had fun and look forward to more trips like this in the future," stated one ISC-Erbil student.
The ski trip, the first of its kind, received unprecedented interest from both ISC-Erbil parents and students. As a result, this endeavor will be followed by others in the future, whether physical, academic, or artistic. The aim is to foster the non-academic development of students, which is highly advocated in SABIS® member schools around the world.
A member of the SABIS® School Network, ISC-Erbil currently serves over 700 students in Kindergarten through Grade 7 and provides them with a high-quality education experience that helps them become responsible world-class citizens.
