ISC-Erbil Hosts Sports Tournament
The International School of Choueifat-Erbil proudly hosted its 1st Annual Sports Tournament for all its staff working for SABIS® Managed Schools and SABIS® University on Saturday, June 6th, 2009. Held on the ISC-Erbil campus, the event brought together staff from ISC-Erbil, Fakhir Mergasori International School, Sardam International School, and the SABIS® University.
The one-day event attracted an audience of locals and students, as well as honorable spectators, most notably Mr. Taha Berwari, the Minister of Youth & Sports, who threw the jump ball to start the first basketball game.
In true athletic spirit, teams competed in soccer, volleyball, and basketball and showcased their skills and talents. In individual events, staff participated in swimming (men and women) and 1000m and 2000m running (men and women). Excitement reached its peak on and off the field during the finals as staff and school administrators cheered on their teams.
The tournament concluded with the distribution of trophies and medals by the Directors of the participating schools and the SABIS® Representative in Iraq, Mr. Raed Mahmoud.
In this respect, Dr. Humaira Bokhari, ISC - Erbil Director, seized the opportunity to thank the staff for their participation and team spirit and the coordinators for providing a well-organized, entertaining atmosphere.
This has been another great success for the SABIS® School Network in Kurdistan. Staff returned home with a store of memories, looking forward to next year's tournament.
Through the active support of the Kurdistan Regional Government, SABIS® schools in Kurdistan - Iraq, whether PPP or private, have been playing a major role in improving the standards of education in Iraq by preparing students to face the challenges that lie ahead.
